GlobalNOC is unique among network operation centers.
The GlobalNOC launched in 1998, at the dawn of the commercial Internet, with a singular goal: to provide operations support enabling Internet2 to create a new kind of network, built by the R&E community to serve the R&E community. Over time, we grew to support the needs of many network partners, but remain a nonprofit focused exclusively on research, education, public-interest networking projects and development of advanced network services.
Over the past two decades, GlobalNOC has grown alongside the R&E networking community, expanding from a handful of people supporting Internet2’s Abilene network to over 120 world-class service desk technicians, engineers, and developers who support partner organizations from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to regional networks such as Rhode Island’s OSHEAN. The GlobalNOC community currently includes 20+ network partners in research, education, public service, and municipal operations, ranging from small and local to global in scope and impact.
GlobalNOC uses a comprehensive suite of monitoring and management tools specifically tailored for the R&E community to provide unparalleled 24x7x365 network operations control. Our two advanced facilities in Indianapolis and Bloomington are connected by persistent video links that optimize staff coordination and quality service. We have highly stringent safeguards to protect networks, including an array of redundant systems at each site to ensure uninterrupted services in case of an outage at one site. Unlike a typical NOC and in close partnership with clients, we also research, develop, test, implement, and teach the latest innovations in network services, hardware, and software.
While we offer the highest caliber technology, our greatest capacity—and defining feature—resides in our relationships. We operate as an extension of each partner network’s team and feel as committed to their success as they do. Beyond providing service, we also welcome our partners into an active and vibrant R&E networking community we help to facilitate.
